To become a New York State Court Officer, you have to meet the eligibility requirements set by the Office of Court Administration, apply for the New York State Court Officer Trainee Exam and score a high mark on the exam. The Exam dates are October 17 and December 20, 2009. You will be required to take the exam on one of these two dates. The requirements are as follows: Minimum Age Requirement - 18 years old to be appointed to the job, but you can be less than 18 to take the exam. For example, you can take the exam at age 17 and then be called for the job when you reach the age of 18. Maximum Age Requirement - there is no maximum age for this position. Education: You must possess a High School Diploma or it's equivalent GED to be appointed to the job, but again you do not need to have a diploma to take the exam. For example, you can take the exam if you are still in high school and get called for the job after you get the diploma. Residency: You must be a citizen of the United States when you apply for the exam. You must be a resident of New York State at the time of appointment to the job. You cannot have a felony conviction and you must be legally eligible to carry a firearm. To apply for the New York State Court Officer Trainee Exam: You must file a test application during the filing period which starts in May 2009. New York State Court Officer Exam applications will be available at the following website: http://www.courts.state.ny.us/careers/. Remember you must file the exam application independently of our Court Officer Course because this involves your personal information and signature on the application. (but we will make sure all of our students are reminded to fill out the application and we will answer any questions or concerns you have regarding the application).
