Salary, benefits and rewards

The general salary range for Nassau County cops ranges from $54,891 to $64,040 per annum. Upon 5 years of service, the figure ascends to $108,608 per annum, excluding overtime. Night differentials, overtime, and benefits are all paid additionally. Paid holidays, uniform allowance, and a sizeable night shift is also offered.

The New York State Department of Civil Service, along with the Nassau County Civil Service Commission, conducts the Civil Services exams.

How to Apply for the 2019 Nassau County Police Exam

According to the announcement dated Friday, May the 3rd, 2019, individuals interested in the Nassau County police exam must apply through the Civil Services page. Here are the details you need to follow:

  • You must create an account and select a password on our online portal. You cannot use anybody else’s existing account to apply for the exam. Always note down your Username and Password for safekeeping.
  • You should apply for the exam from your personal computer (and not from your work computer). The reason is the complications past applicants have had with regard to the fee submission and application completion from work computers.
  • Once you have filled out the form, you will receive an automated email for confirmation. A similar confirmation will be sent to your email before you finally submit the fee. You should save a copy of these confirmation emails. In the case of technical problems such as not being able to make an account or not being able to submit the fees, you can call 1-855-524-5627from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Eastern Time, which is the Free Applicant Support Helpline.
  • Use the same account to apply for other exams by the County. Double check if your form is complete because incomplete forms are rejected.

Important Requirements

  • Unless the application specifies, the positions are only open for bona fide Nassau County residents. Individuals who have moved to Nassau must have lived in the County for at least a year.
  • Use an up-to-date web browser to make your fees submission successfully, using a credit card.
  • If you’re already employed in a department of the Nassau Civil Services, you’re required to use the form for promotional examination applications.

Academic Requisites

The academic requisites for an individual to be able to sit for the Nassau County Police Exam are as follows:

  • 32 college credits for new officers
  • 60 college credits for state troopers OR 30 college credits with 2 years’ service in the military
