Let’s look at the various sections of the exam:

The Memorization Section

This section of the exam tests you on your capabilities of recalling particular information from given passages.

You’re given a passage describing a story, which you have 5 minutes to read and process. The passage then disappears, and there’s a ten-minute wait after which you’re required to answer questions relevant to the information in the story.

The Reading, Understanding and Interpretation Section

This exam section assesses your aptitude of analyzing and comprehending written information. Your reading skills are evaluated in the following ways:

Test Format A:

You’re required to answer questions about a given passage, without any prior knowledge about the topic.

Test Format B:

This test format requires you to complete the given sentences by choosing the most appropriate words based on their grammar and English usage.

Applying Facts to Given Situations

Since every civil service exam is tailored to the position you’re applying for, this section of the exam evaluates how well you’re able to apply given policies, regulations and procedures to realistic scenarios you’ll likely face on the job.

Court Record-Keeping

Applicants are assessed on their abilities to read, synthesize and analyze written information. This section of the exam depicts different types of tables containing names, numbers, letters and codes. The applicant is then asked to rearrange and integrate the given data in order to answer the questions.

Clerical Checking

This section of the exam evaluates your aptitude of differentiating between similar numbers, letters, codes and names. You’re given three sets of information, which you’ll have to compare and differentiate from each other.
